Wood Fitting

Everything you need to know
about engineered wood fitting.

From subfloor preparation to the final finish — practical advice on getting engineered wood flooring installed properly in your home.

What does engineered wood fitting involve?

Engineered wood flooring can be fitted in several ways — glued down, nailed to a timber subfloor, or floated over an underlay. The right method depends on your subfloor type, the product you've chosen, and whether you have underfloor heating.

Proper acclimatisation is important — the boards need to sit in the room for at least 48 hours before fitting so they adjust to the humidity and temperature. Our fitters also check the subfloor for moisture levels and flatness before starting.

Every job includes door bars and trims as standard for a clean, finished look.

Engineered wood fitting FAQs

What areas do you cover?

We cover York and the surrounding areas of Yorkshire including Harrogate, Leeds, Selby, Tadcaster, Wetherby, Malton, Thirsk and more. If you're unsure whether we cover your area, just give us a call.

Does engineered wood work with underfloor heating?

Yes, engineered wood is well-suited to underfloor heating. We recommend glue-down installation for the best heat transfer, and the surface temperature should stay below 27°C.

How long does acclimatisation take?

We recommend leaving the boards in the room for at least 48 hours before fitting. This allows them to adjust to the room's humidity and temperature, reducing the risk of gaps or warping.

Can you fit over existing flooring?

In some cases, yes — floating engineered wood can be laid over existing hard flooring if it's level and in good condition. We'll assess this during the home visit and advise the best approach.

Do I need to move furniture beforehand?

Ideally, yes — clearing the room speeds up the job. If you need help moving heavier items, let us know and we can arrange it.

Are your fitters insured?

Yes — all our fitters carry public liability insurance, so you're fully covered throughout the job.
