Laminate Fitting

Everything you need to know
about laminate fitting.

Laminate is one of the most popular flooring choices for good reason — it's durable, affordable and quick to install. Here's what's involved.

What does laminate fitting involve?

Laminate flooring uses a click-lock system that floats over an underlay — it's not glued or nailed to the subfloor. This makes it one of the fastest flooring types to install, but proper preparation still matters.

The subfloor needs to be dry, clean and reasonably level. A good-quality underlay is essential — it provides cushioning, sound insulation and helps smooth out minor imperfections. Our fitters also leave an expansion gap around the edges to allow the boards to move naturally with temperature changes.

Every job includes door bars and trims as standard for a clean, finished look.

Laminate fitting FAQs

What areas do you cover?

We cover York and the surrounding areas of Yorkshire including Harrogate, Leeds, Selby, Tadcaster, Wetherby, Malton, Thirsk and more. If you're unsure whether we cover your area, just give us a call.

Can laminate go in kitchens and bathrooms?

Standard laminate isn't recommended for wet rooms as it can swell if water gets into the joints. For kitchens and bathrooms, we'd usually suggest vinyl or LVT instead. Some water-resistant laminates are available — ask us for options.

Can laminate be fitted over existing flooring?

Laminate can float over most existing hard floors as long as they're flat and in good condition. It shouldn't be laid over carpet. We'll assess the subfloor during the home visit.

How long does laminate fitting take?

Laminate is one of the quickest floors to install. A standard room can usually be completed in half a day, and a full house in one to two days depending on the size.

Do I need to move furniture beforehand?

Ideally, yes — clearing the room speeds up the job. If you need help moving heavier items, let us know and we can arrange it.

Are your fitters insured?

Yes — all our fitters carry public liability insurance, so you're fully covered throughout the job.
