Vinyl Fitting

Everything you need to know
about vinyl fitting.

Vinyl is waterproof, easy to clean and works in almost any room. Here's what's involved in getting it fitted properly.

What does vinyl fitting involve?

Sheet vinyl is laid as a single piece wherever possible, which means fewer seams and a cleaner, more waterproof finish. The fitter templates the room first, then cuts the vinyl to fit precisely around obstacles like pipes, door frames and alcoves.

The subfloor needs to be smooth and dry — any bumps or debris underneath will show through over time. For uneven subfloors, a smoothing compound is applied first. Vinyl can be loose-laid, stuck down with adhesive, or a combination of both depending on the room size.

Every job includes door bars and trims as standard for a clean, finished look.

Vinyl fitting FAQs

What areas do you cover?

We cover York and the surrounding areas of Yorkshire including Harrogate, Leeds, Selby, Tadcaster, Wetherby, Malton, Thirsk and more. If you're unsure whether we cover your area, just give us a call.

Can vinyl be fitted over existing tiles?

In most cases, yes — as long as the tiles are flat, secure and clean. Deep grout lines may need levelling with a smoothing compound first. We'll assess this during the home visit.

Is vinyl suitable for underfloor heating?

Yes, most vinyl flooring is compatible with underfloor heating. We recommend checking the manufacturer's maximum surface temperature — typically 27°C.

How long does vinyl fitting take?

A standard room can usually be completed in a few hours. If subfloor preparation is needed, it may take a little longer. A full house is typically one to two days.

Do I need to move furniture beforehand?

Ideally, yes — clearing the room speeds up the job. If you need help moving heavier items, let us know and we can arrange it.

Are your fitters insured?

Yes — all our fitters carry public liability insurance, so you're fully covered throughout the job.
